Christmas Day 2010

It was the best Christmas ever! Every minute of the day was wonderful. The boys woke up at 8am and were so excited that Santa had came! My family had come over to watch the boys open their gifts from Santa, I know they enjoyed every minute of it as well.  The boys wasted no time opening gifts. Each gift they were thrilled about.

After all the gifts were open we ate breakfast and the boys played, played, played!  I had made Paula Deen's french toast casserole (thanks to my friend Stephanie for the recipe).  So yummy and easy to make the night before and just pop it in the oven the morning.

Once my family had left to go home and open their Christmas presents, Brian and I changed and we headed over to Brian's parents to spend Christmas.  Logan and Austin even wore their pjs there.  It was a really nice day just opening gifts at lesiure, the boys playing with their gifts, eating, and just taking it easy.  L and A stayed in their pjs all day long until bath time when they put new pjs on!  They loved it!  Here are a few pictures of Christmas at the Harris'.

What a wonderful Christmas.  We feel very blessed.  We miss our family in PA and NJ.  It would be great to all be together.  Though that is not possible you were on our minds and in our hearts that day and always.  We are looking forward to next year when we see some little girl stuff under the tree:)

Christmas Eve 2010

We started the day off just relaxing at home.  It was nice to have everything done and to just be able to enjoy the day being together.  After nap time we got ready to go to church.  Church was at 4, so with our bag of snacks and small toys wearing our Christmas best we were on our way!  The boys were so good.  It helped that their Papa, Mimi and uncles were there to entertain:)  After church we headed to my parents for our annual Christmas Eve dinner.
After dinner we opened our annual Christmas Eve gift of pjs and an ornament!  The boys pjs were matching red two pieces with snowflakes and Brian and I were given UGA pj bottoms.
We had dessert and then headed home to get ready for Santa!
The boys went out and sprinkled reindeer food on the lawn.  In the distance there was a moving light.  Logan said "Look its Santa!"  The boys hurried inside put out cookies and milk and hopped into bed. They were asleep in minutes while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.
The above picture is when Logan spotted Santa!
Santa came...the boys must have been VERY good this year!

Feeling Movement

Butterflies fluttering, popcorn popping, bubbly bubbles, muscles twitching...Addison's movements being felt for the first time today.
Today I am 16 weeks 4 days and I felt our sweet baby girl move around.  Not the big movements that come later and can't be mistaken as gas, but the "quickening" that pregnant women wait weeks to feel.  It will still be a few weeks before Brian and the boys can feel her moving, so right now its just for me; my daughter letting me know she is there and is ok.  I am very rarely still, but right now that is really the only time I can feel the fluttering little movements.  I remember this with the boys.  Sometimes you have to be still to experience the most precious moments.

Message from Santa and First Gifts

Well our sweet boys were not into having their picture taken Santa this year.  What they are into is the message that Santa sent to them.  Every day they ask to watch their Santa message over and over and over.  Its really sweet to see their faces as Santa says their name and opens his book to their pictures.  Logan talks to Santa during the video.  One of my favorite things yet of this Christmas.

Today a big box arrived from Mullen Road!  Several presents were inside from Uncle Tim, Aunt Pam, cousin Bryce, Great-Grandma Mullen, and Great-Grandpa Mullen.  Austin saw the gifts before I had time to put them away for Christmas morning.  So it was only fair that they each opened one gift.  They were so excited tearing into the paper and even more so to see their new Thomas blankets!  Austin hugged his blanket and Logan said "A new Thomas blanket, I needed this!"  Oh Christmas is going to be so much fun I can hardly wait to see them on Christmas morning.  I will try to video tape them and post some Christmas footage.  Thank you Uncle Tim, Aunt Pam, cousin Bryce, Great-Grandma Mullen, and Great-Grandpa Mullen for our first gifts of Christmas!

Our Baby

Logan refers to Addison as "our baby."  He'll point to a baby on a magazine and say "is this what our baby will look like?"  He'll ask "whats are baby doing today mom?"  Each time I hear him say "our baby" my heart skips - it is so sweet to hear.  Logan has also informed me that "mommy your butt is getting big you look like a dragon."  Well, there goes the car on his 16th birthday:)

So I had an OB appt today.  It was good.  Surprisingly good.  My dr. took a look and saw the placenta and the area of concern where accreta (placenta attached to scar tissue/bladder) is.  What he didn't see is previa.  That is awesome, because it was the previa part that would have me hospitalized at 28 weeks and the baby delivered at 34.  So the plan as of now is to be hospitalized at 34 weeks and deliver the baby at 36 weeks with an OB specialist team ready to deliver the baby and perform a hysterectomy and repairs to any affected organs.

Next appointment is Jan. 3 with the Perinatal Specialist.  I thinkI will have an MRI that week as well.  Then back to my OB on Jan. 10.  He did mention the blood bank but we didn't get into much - my boys were ready to go.  So I'll get more info on that soon.  Thank you again for the prayers and support.

Name

We have decided on a name for our baby girl and I even went to Baby GAP and bought her a pink little outfit and no scratch mittens.  I hadn't purchased anything yet out of fear, but I don't want to live in fear.  She will wear this outfit!

We  can't wait to meet you, Addison Kathleen Harris and we already love you so much sweet baby girl!

Update

Nothing new to update really on the pregnancy.  Everything is very "normal" - extremely tired and short on patience (hence the post before this one).  We are busy getting ready for Christmas and enjoying all the holiday stuff with the boys minus Santa.  They HATE Santa.  I mean I had two screaming, running, red faced boys after our first and possibly last attempt at seeing Santa.  See I have this area where yearly framed pictures of the boys and Santa are displayed each holiday season.  I am sad not to have a picture this year, maybe I will write a note about trying to see Santa and frame it:)  Cookies are baked, our house is decorated, gifts are bought (need to be wrapped), and the cold weather has hit Georgia.  Its going to be in the low 20s tonight.  Not loving it for sure.  I want to stay inside all day under layers of clothes.  The boys are going a bit stir crazy which is why we hit the mall to see Santa and have a Chic-Fil-A dinner.  Tomorrow we'll go visit Grandma and Grandpa Harris before they leave for the weekend to head to NJ.
Making pizza - step 1 pounding the dough:)

Step 2 adding toppings, then bake!  They love making pizza.

My cookie helpers:)

Precious picture of Logan helping Brian hang the lights on the tree - everyone should have a daddy like him.  Logan does everything with him and wants to help him 24/7.  Every day I hear Logan say "Dad your my best friend."

More Dec. pictures coming soon, my bed is calling me.

A letter from a mother (if she's honest)

Lord,
I haven't been proud of myself this morning. Please let your love flow through me and help me to be patient and good to them, and not beat myself for the rest of the day over not being patient with them. They are my most important job - help me to do it well.
Love,
Me

"From the moment you were conceived, God knew He would use you to change my heart"

The following story was taken from http://www.incourage.me/2010/12/not-over.html, reminding me to trust in God.

Not Over
Your flip flops hit the pavement on your way to kindergarten and I squeeze your hand.

I squeezed your father’s hand six years ago, willing the baby on the ultrasound screen to be healthy. Willing God to take the organs that were in the wrong places and put them right, a live human baby puzzle.

Willing the doctor to stop talking so I could catch my breath and blink my eyes and not be in that ugly gray room.

The grass grows between the panes of sidewalk. I see you in my peripheral vision, pink dress and ponytails. I relish you.

I remember when the doctor got so close to my face and told me you would die. I couldn’t breathe. I imagined not getting to see you inhale that first gush of sterile hospital air, limbs turning pink and your dad grinning at the miracle.

I wondered what it would be like to bury you, to never watch you build a snowman.

I wondered how my hands would feel, empty, on what should have been your first day of kindergarten.

God had always been there for me, a force not easily reckoned with, a force best left on the shelf. That shelf was obliterated, the need for Him so great, when we learned you were sick.

We near the school. I push something down, down underneath the same heart that hovered over you as you grew in my womb. I’m not sure what it is; I only know it is something that needs to be understood.

You had your first operation when you were 23 hours old. You’ve had four since, and you always face them with bravery and determination.

The front of the school comes into view and the tears quietly gather in the corners of my eyes. I remember that I was too rushed this morning to bother with makeup. For that I am grateful. Time, like anything fluid, can make us bitter. And on days like today, if we choose to let it, it can make us feel nothing but gratitude.

We stand outside the school and you wither a bit against me, watching the older children. They seem so resolute and confident. I know you sense it, too.

Today I know you are feeling what I feel most of the time. Parenting is such a lesson in trusting God because oftentimes I don’t feel like I know what I’m doing. Like you, I put one step in front of the other. Like your new school, whatever I’m fearing comes closer into view. I pray, stepping nearer all the while, hoping like heck that God will carry me over whatever mountain He’s placed in my path.

From the moment you were conceived, God knew He would use you to change my heart. It has changed, sweet girl. The trials that have come along with raising a child with special needs have been hard.

Three more miscarriages in a one-year period have been brutal. And yet, these things have placed your dad and I on the road to foster adoption. I am scared, we are scared. But nothing this great comes easy. That road, I know, will lead us to you and Asher’s little brother or sister.

The grin on my face threatens to split my cheeks as we stand at the door to your kindergarten classroom and I can’t help but thank a God who, in His infinite wisdom, decided that your story was not over.

Watching you, I know what I am feeling. A thankfulness, and a knowing.

Because watching you, I know something else:

My story is not over, either.

2 Corinthians 5:17 – “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
